This summer ACT will produce two musicals. The shows are Singin' in the Rain Jr and Chicago. Each show will have a single cast with three performances. See the tables below for more details on rehearsals and performances for each show.

There is an overlap in the age ranges for the two shows, so some kids will qualify for both. When you register to participate in the Summer Season, you will not choose a show. Casting into shows will be done by the artistic staff following auditions. Everyone will register and audition together using material from both shows, and kids will be encouraged to help out with the other productions.

Rehearsals for Singin' in the Rain and Chicago are blocked out Monday-Thursday, 5-8 PM. Sundays will be used if the director feels it is necessary to keep the production on track. The cast will be given sufficient notice if Sunday needs to be scheduled.

A large time commitment is expected from every actor accepted into Summer Season 2018. Both Singing in the Rain and Chicago involve a significant amount of singing, dancing, acting, and rehearsal time. Please read what is expected of each actor before registering your child for the productions.

Rehearsals are mandatory, unless conflicts have been sufficiently noted and discussed with the producers and/or director
All conflicts must be given to the producers at time of auditions and/or call backs. Any conflict given after casting is considered unexcused (see below regarding unexcused absences)
Actors with more than one week of total conflicts, whether consecutive or cumulative, will not be considered for a lead role
Actors are required to attend Run Through and Dress Rehearsals. These will take place two weeks before performances.
If an actor is absent from a scene, dance, or song rehearsal without a prior noted conflict more than twice, the actor will no longer be a part of said scene, dance, or song.
If an actor accrues more than 2 unexcused absences, the actor will be asked to leave the production
Illness: If an actor is sick, the producers must be informed before 12PM day of rehearsal, otherwise it is considered unexcused

Details for 2018

Online registration for the ACT Summer Season will run from May 1st through May 15th. At the end of the registration period, if we have more registrations than available roles, acceptance into SS18 will be decided based on a lottery. Children of ACT Board members have a limited guarantee of acceptance into the production. All ACTors accepted into SS18, including board children, must audition for casting. Specific roles are offered to ACTors at the sole discretion of the artistic staff.

Please note the rehearsal schedule for the show or shows in your age group. You will not be required for every rehearsal, only for those where your character is called. You can look at the schedule links for last summer's productions to see how this works. Absences are strongly discouraged throughout the production, and attendance is mandatory from the beginning of dress rehearsals on, so please plan accordingly. All actors and at least one parent are also expected to attend the first meeting on June 4th where we will share more details about the production and have sign-ups for volunteer committees.

All payments or payment arrangements must be secured before auditions. There are no refunds after the start of auditions. Although we often have a waitlist, bringing actors into the production after auditions presents numerous challenges for the staff and does not give the late arrivals a fair start to the production.

As is our standard policy, final casting decisions will not be made until after the first week of rehearsals. All ACTors will attend rehearsals for their show. The staff will use this time to get to know the cast, explore the shows and rehearse ensemble pieces.

Singin' in the Rain JR. has all the makings of a Tinseltown tabloid headline — the starlet, the leading man and a love affair that could change lives and make or break careers! In silent movies, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a hot item, but behind the scenes, things aren't always as they appear on the big screen! Meanwhile, Lina's squeaky voice might be the end of her career in “talking pictures” without the help of a talented young actress to do the talking and singing for her.
